The Office of the City Engineer provides complete engineering services to the Mayor and City Council, and technical assistance to the Planning Board.

Engineering services are provided through several sections within the Office including:

1. Planning and Zoning
2. Civil and sanitary engineering
3. Highway and traffic engineering
4. Surveying and mapping
5. Construction and contracts administration

In an effort to provide a comprehensive database of City infrastructure, the Office of the City Engineer recently has initiated a "GPS-GIS" program employing global positioning and geographic information systems to identify and update the City's infrastructure resources. At this point, all phases of this program are planned to be accomplished "in-house".
