The Commissioner of Accounts is responsible for the establishment of a Risk and Safety Management Program for the City of Saratoga Springs. The program is designed to provide compliance, risk financing and safety management services to all City departments.

The Director of Risk and Safety designs and implements interdepartmental programs which include risk financing, state and federal compliance initiatives, safety management, proactive loss prevention and control, workplace safety education, and the purchase and management of the City’s property and casualty insurance program. The Risk and Safety Director serves as a resource to the City Council and the community to prevent and control potential claims and the financial impact they may have upon the City of Saratoga Springs. The Office of Risk and Safety assists in identifying and analyzing risks to which the City, its’ employees and the community may be exposed and proactively provides appropriate recommendations and facilitates remedies.

The Director of Risk and Safety is also the City Safety and Compliance Officer and represents the City in all matters involving regulatory risk and safety issues on behalf of the City Council. This person also chairs the City’s multi-disciplinary Safety Committee composed of representatives from each department and members of the City’s collective bargaining units. The City Safety Committee manages the health and safety of City employees and assists the community when called upon to provide support to community safety initiatives.
