Investigations Division

The Investigation Division is comprised of 2 separate units, the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU). Investigators assigned to the various units within the division are responsible for conducting all major criminal case investigations in the city.

Investigators assigned to the units that make up the Investigation Division are certified Crime Scene Technicians with the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services. The men and women of this division are also responsible for completing all department background investigations on candidates for the position of Police Officer, Fire Fighter, Parking Enforcement Officer, Animal Control Officer, Identification Clerk, Public Safety Dispatcher, and clerical positions within the Department of Public Safety. Members also do a background inquiry on all City Recreation Commission volunteers who work with children in our community.

The Investigations Division is also responsible for tracking sexual offenders residing within the City and maintaining the Sex Offender Registry for the City of Saratoga Springs. The NY State Sex Offender Registry can be accessed either under line here or by calling 1-800-262-3257. All local inquiries of our agency regarding registered sex offenders may be directed via email.
