[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: City Hall Fire and City Hall Operations 8/22

Important: The Police Department will continue its operations, uninterrupted, at 5 Lake Avenue.

City Hall was struck by lightning on Friday evening, August 17, 2018. City Officials, employees, first responders, and later, second, third, fourth, fifth responders have been working all weekend to halt, assess and repair the damage to City Hall.

More damage is due to weather than fire and water remediation; a drainage pipe in the roof was struck and melted, causing heavy rains to pour into the building. The pipe was repaired without delay, but damage is substantial and we are preparing for alternative work and operation arrangements.

Relocating City Hall functions are a priority. As soon as feasible, most City Hall services will continue at the City Recreation facility located at 15 Vanderbilt, except for Parking Tickets which will be at the Police Department at 5 Lake Avenue.

The City is operating in accordance with its City Emergency Management Plan, created in collaboration with the Risk and Safety Department, Police and Fire Departments, all other City departments, insurance and other experts in the field, and voted on by City Council. At this time, the Mayor is the Point of Information to the public.
