[ARCHIVED] 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Tuesday, September 11, 2018

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Tuesday, September 11, 2018

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The City of Saratoga Springs invites the community to a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at High Rock Park on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. The ceremony, hosted by Mayor Meg Kelly, will be held at the Tempered by Memory sculpture at 8:30 a.m.

The observance begins with a welcome from Commander Christopher J. Tejeda, Commanding Officer of the US Naval Support Activity in Saratoga Springs.  A color guard from the Saratoga Springs Police Department, Saratoga Springs Fire Department and US Navy will follow.

A moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. will symbolize when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The National Anthem will be sung by Keri Alonzo, and other music will be provided by Rick and Sharon Bolton. The keynote speech will be delivered by Shawn J. Patrick, brother of local 9/11 hero James Matthew Patrick (who passed at age 30 while employed by Cantor Fitzgerald).

Comprised of five pieces of twisted steel from the 2001 terrorist attacks, the Tempered by Memory sculpture was created by Noah Savitz in collaboration with John Van Alstine.
